The incidence of hypothyroidism after partial thyroidectomy, while less than that after radioiodine treatment, is also slowly cumulative and may reach twenty-five to thirty- five per cent after ten years. Hypothyroidism secondary to destructive therapy to the thyroid accounts for approximately one-third of all cases of hypothyroidism in the general population.
